Holiday Marina and Lazy Days Marina Chosen as Sites for 2000 National Clean Boating Festival on June 24

Buford, GA   - Two outstanding adjacent marinas on the popular boating and fishing Lake Lanier, 40 miles north of Atlanta have been chosen as the sites for this years National Clean Boating Festival.  The Festival celebrates the third annual National Clean Boating Campaign and is sponsored by the Marine Environmental Education Foundation (MEEF), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Tennessee Valley Authority, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services and several local environmental groups.

The Festival will be held on June 24th at Westrec's Holiday Marina on Lake Lanier.  A free shuttle will transport visitors to the neighboring Lazy Days Marina.  Activities, including exhibits and demonstrations of the latest clean boating technology, will begin at 12:00 p.m. and continue until 4:00 p.m.  A news conference with VIP guests will begin at noon.

"Holiday and Lazy Days Marinas will be the place to be in Georgia on June 24th.  There will be something of interest for the entire family, including clean boating demonstrations, refreshments, a band, jugglers and clowns.  A guaranteed good time for boaters and would be boaters alike getting together to celebrate the need for clean
boating," said Doug Beachem, C.E.O. of Lazy Days Marina.

"Boating is good clean fun.  Let's keep it that way." is the campaign slogan again this year.  The Campaign is designed to tell people that boating is clean and remind boaters what they can do to ensure that our precious waters remain clean.

"Recreational boating is one of America's favorite pastimes.  Everyone in a boat quickly becomes very aware of the importance of good water quality and the need to protect this great national resource.  Clean boating is smart boating."  Phil Keeter, Chairman of MEEF.

The Campaign will focus on several important issues:

  • Fueling and bilge care
  • Usage of pumpouts to manage boat sewage
  • Maintenance tips to promote clean water
  • Usage of environmentally friendly products

MEEF is the creator and national organizing sponsor of the National Clean Boating Campaign since its launch in 1998.  It's devoted to programs that result in greater awareness of marine environmental issues and regulations.  Marine issues affect all who enjoy recreational boating.  Every boater has an opportunity to contribute to a cleaner environment for future generations.
